Eric Witchey is known for his incredible ability to teach clear, useable skills that allow students to create saleable fiction. He has taught at two universities, a community college, countless conferences, and many private seminars. Working in multiple genres, he has sold over 50 short stories and a novel into national and international markets. Writers of the Future, New Century Writers, Writers Digest, and a number of other organizations have honored his work. His how-to articles have appeared in The Writer Magazine, Writer's Digest Magazine, and other print and on-line magazines. He was the "buzz" hit of the Willamette Writer's Conference in Portland Oregon in 2009 with his discussion on story, character, and ED ACE.
When not writing or teaching, he tosses small bits of feather and pointy wire at laughing trout.

Where is the workshop being held?
-
The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island opened in 1887 on an island without cars. Today, walking, riding in horse drawn carriages and bicycles are still the modes of transportation. Re-live a place "Somewhere In Time".
-
In 2008 and 2009, Travel+Leisure magazine placed Grand Hotel on its list of Best Hotels in the World, while T+L Family deemed it one of the best resorts in the U.S. and Canada for parents and kids. Resort guests enjoy exceptional dining, accommodations, and amenities.

This workshop event is not just for the writer in the family.
-
Bring along the family and cut them loose for the day and then join them for the fun that night.
-
The family can join with all of the writers and teachers for the Write at the Edge Welcome Reception and Farewell Dinner.
-
There is horseback riding, bicycling and hiking through town and around the island.
-
There is old Fort Mackinac which was used during the Revolutionary War.
-
It may be June but the lake water might be too cold to take a dip, but there is a huge pool down in front of the hotel for all registered guests.
-
There are three great golf courses and one executive putting course.
-
- There is also the famous 61st Annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival (June 4-13, 2010). Ten full days of events. Event brochure for 2009 is at: http://www.mackinacislandlilacfestival.org/
Excerpt from American Midland Naturalist, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA
The Lilacs of Mackinac Island emphasized in a moving picture taken on that historic island, have been widely known for their large size and great age, but it is doubtful whether many persons have realized how unusual they really are. I had observed their unusual size several times in the last ten years and wondered about their age and growth rate. On June 23, 1947, I had an opportunity to satisfy my curiosity, at least in part, by measuring a number of them. I was surprised to find that they were much larger than I had supposed and that some of them had diameters at the butt which would be significant to a lumberman.
